Smooth Fox Terrier  "Bunkie"
Seafox Raybill Sum Honey
Cleo Laxton, a breeder of Fox Terriers, challenged me by saying I could not call myself a real trainer until I had trained something other than Shelties.
"Bunkie" was 3 months when she gave her to me and I enjoyed every minute of the training challenge.

Tibetan Spaniel  "Mugs"
Tritou Jeremy
The breeder of this dog was here from England.  She gave him to me with the comment that no "Tibby" had an obedience title and I probably couldn't train one.  He was a real challenge and there were a few times when I thought she would win her bet.

Shetland Sheepdog  "Spring"
Starmist Tymtels Miniken
First Canadian dog to obtain the coveted American OTCh award.
This dog was given to me by a friend who owned both the parents.  We knew she had great potential but I seriously thought about returning her a number of times during her puppyhood.  She was so busy and impossible to catch that I began training her as a 10 week old puppy.  This was well before puppy training was an acceptable practice.  It proved to be very successful and it was after this experience that I prepared a curriculum and began teaching puppy classes.

Puli  "Rags"

This is where I learned that the parent's temperament should be considered seriously when selecting a pup.  I could not get near the parents and I just put it down to poor training on the owners part.  Without the intensive obedience training he received, he would have bitten - especially a child.
